The pros and cons of letting your wedding venue organise everything
Simply Linens wedding linen hire and wedding venue advice
More and more wedding venues now offer package deals, where a bride and groom can pay a fixed price and get everything they need included for their big day. While it might seem like a great option, is it really?
At Simply Linens in Essex, we’ve been helping couples all over the UK prepare for their big day for years, so we’ve taken a look at some of the main selling points of wedding package deals and have weighed up the pros and cons so you can decide if they’re right for you.
You just pay a set price
This is actually only true if your wedding fits within the venues guide parameters. Quite often the price will be based on something like 80 guests so, if you have more than that, you could actually find yourself paying extra for each additional persons meal, drinks and so on. This can really add up.
You’ll also find when you look through the brochure, that a lot of things come at an additional cost.
You use the venues trusted suppliers
True, and this can be useful if you don’t want to book, say, a DJ for the evening only to find out they’re not very good. However, often package deals will restrict you to only using the venues trusted suppliers, which could result in you paying a lot more than if you’d sourced them yourself, as well as having much less choice.
All catering is included
This is a particularly big selling point for a lot of couples and it’s understandable why. Ultimately, your meals, reception drinks and everything else food-wise is included in the booking price and you don’t have to try out lots of different caterers. However, you should bear in mind that if the menu at the venue isn’t that great, you’re stuck with it whether you like it or not. You should also make sure that the venue can cater for special dietary requirements.
Table linens, crockery, cutlery and glasswear are supplied on-site
Again, this is another good point and one less thing you have to worry about. However, this can create issues when planning your theme as many venues will only stock plain white tablecloths and a few of the most popular colours. If you opt for separate wedding linen hire, you may get a much greater choice of colours and styles. However, this doesn’t necessarily have to be a deal breaker and some venues will be happy to knock the cost of linens off your overall price if you choose to hire from elsewhere.
Someone else will handle everything
Usually, your package deal includes an event or wedding planner to handle all of the arrangements. This can take a lot of pressure of busy brides and grooms but you should make time to check in with them. Remember, they’re not you and some of their choices may not be the same as your own.
